Sometime at the beginning of last year menstrual cups sparked my interest. I began searching them in google and youtube like crazy. I mentioned it to someone and they did a little research and decided to purchase one. I have to admit that at the time I still had not ordered one because I was afraid the removal process would hurt. Not to mention I couldn’t even comfortably insert a tampon at the time. Even after seeing them insert and remove their menstrual cup numerous times, I still wasn’t ready to make the purchase.
Fast forward to November of 2019 and I finally made my menstrual cup purchase.

I went into Target with plans on purchasing the pads and/or tampons by L. that I had fallen in love with and been using since the beginning of the year. I was unable to find the specific pack that I normally purchased and stumbled across the Saalt menstrual cup. I remember standing there going back and forth about whether to purchase the cup or not. Reminding myself how much money I could save in the long run pushed me to make the purchase.
So let’s get right to it, based on my personal experience of using the Saalt menstrual cup for six months here are some pros and cons:

Depending on the brand the cups firmness, flexibility, and feel can vary because they can be made from various materials. So once again do not base your opinion solely off this post. Do a little research.
CONS
The cup can be difficult to insert correctly. If the cup is not inserted correctly the cup will not catch the blood and you will therefore bleed into your underwear.
Removing the cup can be difficult in the beginning. I cannot tell you how many different removal videos I had to watch on youtube before finally removing the menstrual cup for the first time. Lol The key was to relax.
PROS
You will save money in the long run – so the cup does cost $30 making it more expensive than pads and tampons which are already expensive; however, the Saalt cup can last up to 10 years with proper care. This means you buy the cup for a one time fee of $30 instead of purchasing period products every month. Even if you spend as little as $7/month on period products by the end of the year that’s $84 which means you save $54.
The Saalt cup can last up to 10 years with proper care. The cup does come with instructions on how to insert, remove, clean, and sanitize the cup. It also comes with a bag to store the cup when you’re not using it.
When the Saalt cup is inserted correctly it feels as if you are not even on your period. Almost like you can do anything. If inserted correctly you do not have to worry about bleeding through. It truly feels like nothing is there.
The cup only has to be changed every 12 hours. This is one of my favorite parts. You can insert the Saalt cup in the morning before work and will not need to empty it until sometime after you get home from work. I typically do it right before my shower. Then you can wear it the rest of the night and don’t have to worry about emptying it again until the morning. That’s right you will only have to change it twice a day.
As you can see, the cons for me are few, but the pros honey, I can go all day. Though I think I will stop here with the pros and cons of using the Saalt menstrual cup based on my six month experience.
Before I go, it is important that I mention once again that there are many different types of menstrual cups. I am saying this to say that this particular cup and/or brand will not work for everyone. Your cervix does need to sit in or right above the menstrual cup and everyone’s cervix is not in the exact same spot. So please do your research.
