Today is the last day of the 9 Days of Reflection During The Pandemic series. Thank you to everyone who has participated in this series and special shout out to anyone who has participated in all nine days! If this is the first post from my blog that you are reading, you can check out the introduction/day one of the series here. If you have been following along but missed a few posts you can look here to find all posts from this series, well all except day eight. Day eight of the series turned out to be an Instagram live video which you can view on my account under the igtv section.
In the instagram live video for day eight the question was “What are some ways you could have been more supportive of yourself during the pandemic?” Visit the video to join that discussion. Since we mainly talked about times during the pandemic when we realized – looking back – that we needed a little more support from ourselves, I decided that it would be a great idea to make the last day of the series a bit more beneficial to you. With that being said, let’s jump right in:

3 FREE Ways You Can Show Support To Yourself
One. Meditate. Meditation is a great way to show support to yourself when needed. In times of high stress/anxiety taking deep breaths and meditating will relax your mind and body. The best part is that once you do it consistently enough, a meditation session as short as 1 minute will be beneficial. Keep in mind that meditation is not supposed to quiet your mind. If meditating will be new for you there are plenty of apps that can assist you. I started out using Headspace after trying a few other ones and it really helped me not only meditate successfully but understand meditation. Download it here: iphone / android
Two. Limit your exposure to things that trigger you. A lot of time we feel we need support when negative things are going on in our lives or heads. Take the time to identify the cause of these feelings or thoughts. Whether it be people or things you sometimes have to pull back for your own well being. Scale back on the amount of time you scroll on Instagram, don’t answer every time that person calls your phone, stop watching those YouTube videos every day, etc. You have to recognize your triggers and stop putting yourself in a position to downward spiral.
Three. Talk to yourself. Sometimes you have to tell yourself all the things you wish someone else would. Yes, we all need someone but you have to be your number one fan! It is easy to beat yourself up and say negative things about yourself but it is important that you work hard to speak positive and uplifting things to yourself as well. You want to do this so often that you think twice before speaking negatively about or to yourself.
There are many ways that you can show up and show support to yourself. If you have any that you would like to share please do so in the comment section below!
