Finding Out My Father Is Not My Biological Father

After the instagram live yesterday I am feeling really confident and light. It is almost as if a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I have been harboring this secret for six years and a lot of my family members for twenty one. I contemplated speaking about it time and time again but couldn’t bring myself to do it. Today is the day. The day that I tell the world about the moment that changed my life.

It is extremely hard to believe that I am even talking about this today but am glad that I am. I was about twenty one years old when I decided that it was time to learn about my family history. At this time I was aggressively trying to figure out who I was. So I decided to create a family tree. I went to the store to pick up a science board and some markers. I got home and laid it across the kitchen table. I remember asking my mother for first and last names of her family members, calling family from out of state, and even calling my father to get first and last names from people on his side of the family.  I wanted so badly to get as much information as I could that night. I was really excited about this family tree.

Fast forward to me finding out.

We gathered around the kitchen table. By this time my parents had already split but my father was there. I am assuming the day before my mother asked him to be there when she revealed the big family secret. She was taking unusually long to come home this day. We cracked jokes about her not wanting to tell us being the reason she was late. My siblings and I basically asked my father to tell us. He called my brother who was away at college and then told us. Told us that he is not my biological father. At some point my mother came home, I can’t quite recall exactly when but I remember her explaining it to us. We cried. My brother basically cussed them out, my sister Taylor cracked jokes, and we all just cried.

To be continued…

Join me on instagram live tomorrow Wednesday June 24th at 3 pm to hear the backstory, how I immediately felt afterward, and more of the details which will include why my parents told me and how it all happened.
