We made it y’all! Last year was a trying year but as I previously mentioned in my Last Post of The Year, it wasn’t all bad. I am glad that it is over though and am looking forward to all 2021 has in store for me. I have decided to share 5 things I think you should be doing this year as my first post of the year because I like sharing gems. Enjoy!

1. Meditate

Once again I am mentioning meditation here on the blog and for good reason. Meditation is not something that you can just do and immediately reap the benefits, it definitely takes practice to master but is so worth it. Honestly, if you are not meditating after twenty twenty I am highly concerned. 

Some tips:

There are various apps that can be used to assist you in your meditation journey. 

Meditation isn’t about trying to quiet your mind it is about being present in the moment and as a result, your thoughts will begin to have less of a presence during meditation.

2. Shop Second Hand, Local, and Black Owned

Take your fly ass into a consignment shop or virtually visit one and purchase some stylish, affordable, sustainable furniture, household items, clothing and accessories of amazing quality. Like sis you ain’t tired of only getting two to three wears out of an item before it starts to shrink, fade, and/or go out of style? Or having a limited style of furniture and other items that are based on what someone else deemed trendy at that time? Hit up the thrift store then. 

If last year didn’t teach us anything else as a collective it should have taught us that we have to stick together. Shopping with local and black owned shops will allow the dollar to circulate within our communities and that is extremely important. Throughout the year I plan to do much better with this myself and will be sure to share some of my favorites with you.

3. Get to Know Yourself

The time is now. Know yourself, know your worth. It is extremely important that you take time to get to know who you truly are. There are so many benefits that come with knowing who you are. Your experiences and relationships will be better, the decisions you make will be in alignment with not only where you are in life currently but will also contribute to the future you in a beneficial way, and most importantly you will treat yourself as if you are your best friend and well that’s what we want.

4. Self Advocate

Listen, once you gain self awareness it is important that you self advocate. You have to become self aware first because that is the only way that you will truly know what you want and need. It is important that you know when and how to stand up for yourself, set boundaries, request more of someone or something, express your needs, etc. Self advocacy is essential, no one can advocate for you better than you can.

5. Let Sh*t Go

We don’t need the stress. Let it go doesn’t mean you have to forgive or forget but we have to stop letting things alter our moods, motivation, and character even for just a couple seconds.
