Some people will argue that you need to have a backup plan; a plan B. This seems very logical, right? I mean we don’t know what will happen in the next hour let alone the next couple of months or years. So we need to have something to fall back on or something else to do if what we are currently doing doesn’t work out. Makes perfect sense!

Would you be willing to hear me out if I said that having a plan b is not only the reason your plan a never works but that it also means plan a isn’t the right “plan” for you?

Plan B is a distraction to keep you stagnant. It will make it easier for you to remain the same, there will be no need to work through discomfort. If you want to truly elevate your life you have to change your mindset…

Before we discuss why plan a should be your only plan let’s talk about why you feel that you need a plan b to begin with.

1. Fear

Fear is a mental experience that can cause powerful physical and emotional reactions. There are many reasons that we fear things, I strongly suggest that you ask yourself why you fear whatever it is. You have to break your emotions down into very small pieces so that you can digest them and address life accordingly. We can discuss this further in another post if you are interested. The point is that fear keeps you from doing things and will keep you from executing plan a.

2. Low self-esteem

In a previous post I briefly discussed low self esteem and how it may appear in your life. Realizing and accepting the fact that you currently have low self esteem will allow you to understand why plan a isn’t working for you. When you have low self esteem you won’t work as hard toward your goals and are more likely to help others achieve theirs while you dream of what could be.

3. You are not 100% sure that it is what you want.

If you don’t feel it in your soul that plan a is what you want to do then of course you will weigh your options. You won’t put in all your effort because you are unsure and will most likely toy with plan b causing you to focus less on plan a, there is that distraction piece again.

If you want to elevate your life and achieve your dreams, Plan A has to be your only plan.

If the aforementioned reasons you might feel you need a plan b didn’t convince you that you don’t, then let me explain to you why plan a has to be your only plan. Simply put, you don’t need options. It always takes much longer to do anything when you have options. You tend to second guess yourself and want second opinions on things your soul has already assured you of. When there is no other plan, you will do whatever it takes to see it through.

  1. SHEESH! First, let me say that this was very well written. Second, I agree with all of this and funny enough I’ve been dealing with the truths behind each reason you listed as of lately. I would write what I wanted and never fully do it because I was too focused on, “What else can I do?” The issue is I kept – thinking I was – coming up with “better ideas” when I should’ve been confident in my original. Thank you for this, I needed this.
