Shopping itself isn’t the problem, in fact shopping is unavoidable for the majority of us. With that being said we do not need to focus on ways to stop spending money but instead on ways to save money in areas where money has to be spent. Lucky for you, I have a list of 3 ways that you can save money while shopping. 

1. Write A Shopping List

Write your list in the note section of your phone, this will ensure that you always have the list with you. In the event that you are a pen and paper type of person, once you finish writing the list, stick it on your front door so that you won’t forget to grab it when headed to do shopping. Writing a shopping list will help you keep track of what it is that you need to purchase and which store you need to visit. This will also keep you from walking the entire store which plays a huge role in making unnecessary purchases. 

2. Label Your Cards

Use scotch tape and a sharpie to label your cards if you do not want to write on the actual card with a sharpie. Pulling out a debit card that reads “For bills” will have you think twice about swiping it for shoes. The whole purpose of labeling the cards is simply to challenge impulse buying.

3. Take Cash

…and leave your cards at home. Taking cash out of the bank will allow you to see your money go as you spend it. It is easy to overspend when you don’t see your bank account decreasing by hundreds within minutes. Trust me, you will be less likely to overspend if you take cash with you and leave your cards at home.

In addition to shopping second hand and using coupons, these are three other ways you can save money while shopping. Most of the things we purchase have a set price and are that same price every time we purchase them. The issue is always the twenty other items on the conveyor belt at the register next to the one item we came into the store for. To avoid this try using one or all of these three ways to save money while shopping the next time you head into the store to make a purchase.
